This shows finesse and class of the vintage with pure blackberry and currant character. Full body, fine tannins and a beautiful finish.
Dark, sumptuous and creamy, it exudes class. Black cherry, mocha, spice, espresso, menthol and new leather are all pushed forward in a spherical, rich wine that captivates all the senses.
As always, this is an overt style, but the purity of the fruit comes through nicely now that the oak has started to integrate.
There is plenty of the Magrez trademark richness, but done in a slightly more restrained style than in the past.
This is a gorgeous wine by any measure. Tasted three times. Tasted blind. One of the first positively interesting noses for a while.
Then a very dry finish. Owner Bernard Magrez has made serious investments here since the late 's and recent vintages have been outstanding thanks to extremely low yields, labour-intensive sorting of grapes and modern wine-making techniques.
Quality bears no relation to the weedy wines of the early 's and before. Deep purple colour. Black fruits on the nose with mulberry and exotic spice with a smoky toasty character.
The palate is rich and intense with black cherry, blackcurrant and roasted coffee. Opulent but iwth mouthfilling ripe tannins to give structure.
Medium to full-bodied, strikingly elegant and less thick and intense than a structured vintage such as , the possesses remarkably sweet tannin sweeter than the as well as a full-bodied, long finish.
It should be drinkable at an early age and keep for years. The palate is medium-bodied with lithe tannins and good density, as you would expect.
Whilst a little grainy in texture it feels structured with tarry black fruit, although I would have liked to see a touch more persistence on the aftertaste.
As such, leave it for another three or four years because it has a lot of potential. Tasted at the UGC in London and then at the chateau. It has a relatively understated, again quite "classic" bouquet that is very "Graves" in style - a little earthy with hints of tobacco and cedar.
The aromatics gain some momentum in the glass, offering a black olive tapenade. The palate is medium-bodied with a very supple entry.
Again, I appreciate the acidity to this Pape Clement that binds those dusky, earthy black fruit together and then it builds nicely towards the peppery finish.
This Pape Clement effortlessly conveys its terroir - excellent. Tasted November Tasted at the Union de Grand Cru in London. The nose is very pure with blackberry, blueberry, crushed stone and a touch of dried flowers.
Good definition. There is a slight sorbet note coming through with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with fully ripe tannins, firm grip and layers of sweet black, liquorice and spice infused fruit.
A little oaky on the finish but that is to be expected. Very rounded and sensual, but I prefer the tension demonstrated by the nascent Tasted October Blackberry and a touch of briary.
The palate is very well balanced, very fine tannins and superb tension, the acidity lending this great poise and freshness.
Good grip on the finish, this is an outstanding Pape-Clement. Tasted March Deep garnet in color, the Pape Clement comes wafting sensuously from the glass with fragrant notions of dried roses, Chinese five spice and sandalwood over a core of kirsch, warm cassis and plum preserves plus a touch of cedar chest.
It is harmonious and focused, good volume here, with a strict finish that displays good tension, although there is a slight dryness coming through on the aftertaste.
Tasted April This is rich and decadent with lots of wet earth, tobacco, berries and hints of cedar. Full body, round and velvety tannins and a long, long finish.
Better in This is already a gorgeous wine with spices, berries, dark chocolate and walnuts. Full body, soft and silky.
Better than The Pape Clement is one of racier, more voluptuous wines of the year. Deep, supple and flamboyant, the is laced with expressive dark stone fruit, game, cured meats and dried flowers.
This is one of the more extroverted wines of the year. It should drink well with minimal cellaring and drink well to age This is another strong from proprietor Bernard Magrez and Michel Rolland.
Very intense dark purplish crimson. Super-clean refreshing-but-ripe black fruit aromas. Sweet palate entry and then rather refreshing and muscular.
For the moment it's all ripe sweetness but it has the constitution for giving immense pleasure. All the constituents are in the right balance and the finish is most refreshing.
Deep purple in the glass. The nose is ripe and rich with blackcurrant fruit, coconut, and nutmeg. A real blockbuster nose.
The palate follows in the same vein, with a dense, opulent core of ripe black fruits. The tannins are ripe and in balance with the smoky oak and full bodied texture.
